Part 2 - Creating .tga sequence in 3ds Max
Start by resetting 3ds Max or by starting a new scene. On the top
menu bar, click on Rendering>Environment |
 |
| When the Environment and Effects window opens, click on None under
Environment Map. |
 |
| Choose Bitmap for the type. |
 |
Go to the folder where your source video is. In 3ds Max, your source
video can be MOV, AVI or MPEG. MPEG is in 3ds Max 7 and up. Note
the total number of frames (see the arrow in the image to the right.
Click on the image for full screen) then click Open. Now close the
Environment and Effects window. |
 |
Now we want to see the video in out viewport. Click in the perspective
viewport to highlight that window. On the Top Toolbar, click View>Viewport
Background. When the window opens, Click Use Environment Background
and Display Background. Click Okay. The source video should now
be in the perspective viewport. Note: Once you get used to this
sequence of events, you can skip this step as it's not really necessary. |
 |
Now we need to set up the render. Right-Click on the Play Animation
button (lower right-hand arrow) and the Time Configuration window
opens. Under Animation, in the Frame Count window, put the exact
number as you noted before when loading the source video. |
 |
Almost ready to render. Hit F10 or click Rendering>Render
on the Top Toolbar. Set the Time Output to Active Time Segment.
Output Size should be set to the resolution of your source video.
Note: If your source video is large, you can halve the resolution
here for faster tracking in Voodoo Camera Tracker. Just one important
thing to note here: You'll be outputting a tga sequence at 30 fps.
If your source video was captured at a different frame rate, you'll
either need to convert your source video to 30fps before using it
as the final background. Or you can load the footage again and re-output
another tga sequence at full resolution at 30fps.
At the bottom arrow, you'll set up your destination folder and
filename. Click on Files under Render Output (bottom arrow) |
 |
Here you need to define your destination folder. Here, I went
to "desktop" and right-clicked in the window and created
a new folder. |
 |
| Rename the new folder to something specific to the project, such
as "background_tga". |
 |
| Now enter your filename for the sequence and choose .tga as the
file type. Click Save |
 |
| After you click on Save, the Targa Image Control window opens. Select
24 bit and enter any info you would like to remember in the text boxes.
Click OK |
 |
| Now you are ready to output. In the Render window, click the Render
button. |
 |
Your source video is now output to a .tga sequence ready for
import to Voodoo Camera Tracker! |
